Upgrade your skills and knowledge for providing compassionate palliative care. Together we will develop best practices for patient care, nutrition, communication, and emotional support throughout the dying process, so you can be successful as a caregiver in any setting. You’ll learn to identify and provide culturally safe care with a trauma-informed approach to deliver excellent care for patients and their families.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this course the learner will be able to:
- Describe the concept of Palliative Care
- Review food intake and hydration at the end of life
- Demonstrate openness and sensitivity to social, spiritual and cultural values and practices that may influence individuals and family preferences and accommodate these
- Identify individualized comfort measures that focus on the person’s goal of care
- Identify appropriate communication that supports the dying person and is culturally sensitive
- Understand how to provide emotional support to a person from diagnosis to bereavement
Requirements/Eligibility
- Nineteen years or older on the first day of classes
- Resident of Ontario and legally entitled to work in Canada
