Course Overview
This course provides training to personal support workers and unregulated care providers to learn the skills needed when working with clients with mental health needs or behavioural concerns. Understanding Signs and triggers, non-violent crisis intervention, and behaviour tracking will be learned.
Course Learning Outcomes
Individuals participating in this course will develop skills to:
- Recognize signs and triggers for individuals who demonstrate risk factors for crisis or are in perceived crisis.
- Select evidence-informed interventions for clients in crisis, utilizing knowledge of resources and safety procedures.
- Describe key tenants of behaviour interventions and tracking when working with clients with behaviour concerns.
- Demonstrate effective communication of the care a health care worker has given as well as the observations and basic assessments made about the client during care
Requirements/Eligibility
Currently employed as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) or
Unregulated Care Provider (UCP)
• Resident of Ontario and legally entitled to work in Canada
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Currently NOT participating in full-time education
• Available for synchronous learning during evenings
