U-First!® Dementia Care Training
Description
This program is designed to help develop a
common knowledge base, language, and approach
to caring for people with Alzheimer’s and other
forms of dementia.
U-First!® is a six-hour workshop on dementia care
designed for health care providers who are involved
in supporting persons with Alzheimer’s disease or
other dementias.
The U-First!® program will help you:
• Understand that there can be many reasons
why people living with dementia experience
behaviour changes
• Flag the possible changes that you may see
when you are supporting a person living with
dementia
• Interact in a new way with both skill and a
common understanding of dementia
• Support the person living with dementia, their
family, and friends in everyday activities
• Know that you are part of an important Team in
caring for the person living with dementia
The Alzheimer Society of Canada is the leading
nationwide health charity supporting people living
with all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s
disease, as well as their caregivers and their families.
Active in communities across Canada, the Society
offers programs and support services, fundraises to
advance research, advocates for policy change and
increases public awareness.
Individuals who complete the training will receive
a U-First!® Certificate. To receive a certificate
